About this position
The training supervisor is responsible for supervising and evaluating staff within the Training and Professional Development Department.
The Training and Professional Development Department provides professional development for program staff and innovative child care, early education, and school-age training for organization affiliates and community members. Training encompasses curricula, customer service, program-specific staff onboarding, licensing and funding source requirements, state-mandated compliance training, all facets of child development, classroom best practices, mentoring and coaching, staff wellness, training for family child care providers, management strategies, and more.
A key objective of the Training and Professional Development Department is to ensure that the organization is providing a consistent, excellent program and client experience. The successful candidate has supervision experience, knowledge of training and delivery methodologies, a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, effective communication skills for diverse audiences, and excellent organizational skills. What you’ll be doing
- Supervising all aspects of training, inclusive of creating and delivering training content;
- Providing coaching, mentoring services and technical assistance to center-based staff and families as needed;
- Acting as a resource for center-based staff on child development, quality child care, professional development, and other related areas of need, including sharing feedback on progress;
- Creating training content on child development topics, as well as child care business-related topics;
- Delivering training and technical assistance regularly to center-based staff, families, and staff;
- Providing coaching and mentoring services to center-based staff and families to put training theories into practice;
- Overseeing the scheduling and quality of program training and workshops, ensuring they are appropriately staffed;
- Assisting with outreach efforts to encourage more center-based staff and families to attend training, including targeting certain groups that do not typically participate;
- Participating in community and outreach events to help maintain program visibility and attending designated project and community meetings;
- Reading and implementing all organization and program policies and procedures;
- Assisting the training and development manager;
- Accurately completing all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis, according to organization policies and procedures;
- Actively participating in the annual in-service training;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
What you bring to the table
- Bachelor's degree in child development or a related field OR three years of experience in training and/or coaching adult learners OR three years of experience working in a child care setting;
- Familiarity with child care provider population (preferred);
- Experience with resource and referral and subsidized child care funding (preferred);
- Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English;
- Command of Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese;
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills;
- Effective presentation and facilitation skills for small, large and diverse groups of employees, child care providers, and other adults;
- Experience in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams);
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds;
- A California driver's license, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance (preferred).

Job specifications
- Reports to the training and development manager;
- Exempt, full-time, full-year schedule;
- Eight-hour workday; four-day workweek;
- Hybrid work schedule available with approval by management;
- Limited evening or weekend hours may be required;
- Employment, responsibilities, compensation and other factors may be affected by changes in governmental regulations, the organization’s contracts, or at organization discretion.
Salary
- $85,000 to $95,000 per year
