Job Summary:
Blavity Inc. is looking for an Associate Director, Talent & Live Events to oversee all aspects of talent management and event programming across the AfroTech & Live Events Division. This role will oversee programming and talent management for our Live Events portfolio, including the AfroTech Conference and Blavity House Party events. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in event management, technical backline, artist management, talent securing, people management, client and vendor management, and stage programming matrices.
To be successful, the Associate Director will need to be a strategy-driven leader with clear and concise communication. This role requires a project management powerhouse that is resilient to change and collaborates in an impactful way with internal stakeholders and vendors.
This role will report directly to the General Manager of Community.
Responsibilities:
- Manage staff in the day-to-day operations of the functional area(s) of responsibility
- Hire, develop, and evaluate staff while providing career coaching and ensuring team performance
- Complete work on schedule, understand tradeoffs, and use data to influence decisions
- Manage stage production strategy including stage design, developing run of shows, and liaising with production company and internal stakeholders
- Oversee talent management function including sourcing, contracting, and speaker/talent operations
- Oversee content strategy and programming including theme development, topic selection, schedule development, and communication of product value proposition
- Employ a hypothesis-driven approach to solve complex business problems and deliver insightful analysis of market and partnership opportunities for both AfroTech Conference, Blavity House Party, and additional Live Event series
- Build effective relationships with colleagues throughout the Blavity organization to support analysis of product performance based on multiple internal metrics including technical, financial, sales and strategic benchmarks
- Assist in drafting scripts and internal memos
- Streamline processes across teams (Live Event Operations, Creative, Sales, Finance, Client Services) and communicate clearly with vendors, clients, and executives
Qualifications:
- Education: B.A. or B.S. in Marketing, Communications, or related field
- Required Experience:
- 8+ yrs of live events production
- Preferred Experience:
- 3+ yrs managing people/teams
- Previous experience working in Consulting, Finance, Media, or related high-growth start-up
- Technologies: Fluent in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, event management platforms, Asana, and/or comparable project management suite
- Additional Qualifications:
- Independent, entrepreneurial self-starter who is comfortable taking on a high level of responsibility
- Comfort with ambiguity and a proven love for transforming unorganized/complex data into rigorously structured, insight-oriented solutions
- High-energy, company-first, positive attitude; must be motivated to work hard in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and analytical skills; outgoing and sociable; willing to wear multiple hats
- Naturally detail-oriented, with an obsessive need to document and communicate findings
- A healthy appreciation of GIFs and Black culture
Details:
- This is a fully remote, U.S.- based role. Occasional travel may be required.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Candidates must be flexible to work in alignment with the Pacific Time Zone at least 50% of the time.
- The annual salary range for this role is $93,600 - $120,000.
