Position Overview:
As the HR Director at Family Paths, you will lead the strategic direction and daily operations of our HR function. You will ensure the seamless delivery of services in areas such as performance management, employee relations, compensation, benefits, recruitment, and training. This pivotal role is essential in building, developing, and managing all aspects of HR—from talent acquisition to compliance— in alignment with our mission and organizational goals. You will be a key member of our senior Directors team, driving innovation, fostering a collaborative workplace culture, and mentoring staff at all levels. Additionally, you will collaborate and partner closely with the finance team. The HR Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).

What You'll Do:
HR Strategy & Development:
- Design and implement comprehensive HR policies, procedures, and systems to establish
- a robust HR infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with senior Directors to align HR strategies with organizational objectives across talent acquisition, training, compensation, and performance management.
- Lead and mentor the HR team, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
- Mentor, coach, and empower managers in developing effective leadership and supervisory skills.
Talent Acquisition & Management:
- Develop and execute a compelling talent acquisition strategy to attract and retain top
- talent, ensuring a seamless and positive candidate experience.
- Manage the full recruitment life cycle, from job postings to onboarding, while maintaining fairness and consistency in hiring practices.
- Provide guidance and training to hiring managers and interviewers on recruitment best practices and policies.
Enhance Performance & Engagement:
- Partner with Directors to develop and implement a performance management strategy
- that enhances organizational performance and supports employee development.
- Design and implement performance appraisal systems that facilitate fair and objective evaluation of employee contributions.
- Offer coaching and mentoring to foster professional growth and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Employee Relations & Culture:
- Advise the agency and Executive Director as a member of the Family Paths Advisory Council on the topics of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Trauma-informed Practices in support of celebrating, valuing, and enhancing a culture of belonging in the workplace.
- Promote a culture of belonging and development that enhances the well-being and growth of our team members.
- Collaborate with Directors to implement initiatives aimed at enhancing employee engagement and retention
- Address employer relations issues with empathy and effectiveness, ensuring timely resolution and promoting a supportive work environment.
HR Compliance & Operations:

- Ensure we are ahead of the curve with HR best practices, labor laws, and regulations,
- maintaining accurate and secure employee records.
- Oversee the administration and accuracy of our HR information systems (HRIS) to support HR operations.
- Lead day-to-day HR operations, ensuring seamless delivery of services in areas such as performance management, employee relations, compensation, benefits, recruitment, and training.
- Provide a strong business partnership on topics related to headcount planning and payroll with the Finance team.
Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR management experience required, with at least 2 years being in a non-profit environment
- 2+ years of experience leading, managing, and mentoring HR teams
- Advanced knowledge of California labor laws and regulations
- Proven track record in building and scaling HR functions and programs from the ground up, including policy creation, systems development, and talent management.
- Demonstrates a proactive and innovative approach to HR challenges and opportunities, supported by strong strategic thinking, leadership prowess, and adept project management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data, make informed decisions, and devise effective HR solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective and meaningful work relationships at all levels, and partner with managers on strategic planning, policy creation, and conflict resolution.
- Proven coaching and mentoring abilities and a strong work ethic
- A commitment to discretion and the highest levels of confidentiality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with clarity and intention, deliver compelling presentations, and provide business recommendations that drive informed decision-making and bring a positive impact to the team.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems. Nice-to-have: familiarity with ADP Workforce Now.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software applications.
Special Requirements:
- Must pass CORI LiveScan clearance.
- Requires some driving on agency business so must have access to reliable transportation, maintain a valid CA driver license, current auto insurance and a clean DMV record.
Perks & Benefits:
Compensation: $110,000 – $125,000 annually, commensurate with experience and
qualifications.
