Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist – Benefits and Payroll is part of a dynamic team of HR professionals working together to create, implement and deliver HR programs and services to enhance organizational culture and cultivate employee engagement.
We are seeking a detail-orientated and experienced HR professional to oversee our organization's benefits, leaves and compensation programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: HRIS management; benefits management and administration; payroll support; and managing projects for HR operations, as needed. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, a thorough understanding of HR best practices and the ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Essential Functions
Compensation Management
- Collaborate with Finance to process bi-weekly payroll.
- Address compensation-related inquiries from employees and management.
- Ensure employee compensation information is accurate on HRIS (Paycom).
- Understand and operationalize benefits, compensation, and leaves outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
Benefits Administration
- Serves as primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding benefit offerings, claim issues, status and eligibility changes, and plan changes.
- Coordinate with benefit vendors and third-party administrators to ensure smooth operation and administration of all benefit programs.
- Processes benefit enrollments, qualifying life events, terminations and COBRA events.
- Conduct benefits orientation for new hires and manage initial enrollments during eligibility window.
- Ensures accuracy of all benefit enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with correct eligibility information. Reviews vendor discrepancy reports and provides corrections.
- Oversees and maintains health of EDI and SFTP feeds between HRIS and benefit vendors.
- Manages annual Open Enrollment for organization, along with coordinating and hosting information sessions with benefit vendors and employees.
- Compile and submit data for annual compliance reporting, including ACA, EEO-1, and 401k.
- Support the finance team in record keeping of benefit vendor invoices, payment details, and contributions sent via biweekly payroll.
Leave of Absence
- Oversees all employee leave requests ensuring compliance with organizational policies and relevant federal and state laws.
- Processes all employee leave requests, including providing and tracking appropriate employee paperwork; interfacing with leave provider as needed; tracking amount of leave used; and providing status leave reports to employees and managers.
- Provides employees with guidance, applicable paperwork, and additional information regarding leave of absence.
- Ensures that all leaves are accurately tracked and recorded.
- Works with employees, supervisors, and the payroll team to accurately enter appropriate paid leave hours on the employee’s timesheet.
HRIS
- Conduct regular audits of HRIS for accuracy, compliance, and process improvement opportunities. Is responsible for the data integrity of the HRIS system.
- Compiles data to produce regular and ad hoc reporting for leadership, including staffing levels, turnover, benefits plan utilization, retirement plan metrics, and other data to support strategic initiatives.
- Serves as primary point of contact for HRIS vendor representatives and support teams.
- Processes all employee changes in HRIS via personnel action forms (PAF).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in payroll software and systems (e.g., Paycom, Paychex) to streamline processes and ensure accuracy.

- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and vendors with professionalism
- Ability to work with minimal direct supervision in performing routine tasks/assignments

- Working understanding of human resource principles, practices, and procedures
- Knowledge of and/or prior experience with Protected Leave Acts
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to operationalize concepts into programs, policies, procedures
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to conduct oneself and interact with professionalism and to maintain confidentiality

Experience
- Five or more years' experience working in human resources or an administrative position.
- Experience managing HR information systems, preferably Paycom.
- Experience working with collective bargaining agreements in a unionized workplace preferred.
- Experience supporting payroll activities preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is not responsible for supervising other staff members.
