we are seeking a Payroll and Benefits Manager who will be a individual will be the subject matter expert in payroll and benefits and collaborate with internal stakeholders and vendors to optimize and automate processes, resolve efficiencies, and deliver outstanding service. This position will report directly to the VP, Total Rewards and Analytics with geographic flexibility to work remotely offered by Tanger’s hub-and-spoke approach to a modern Teams-driven workplace.
About the Role:
As the Payroll and Benefits Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of payroll operations and benefits administration to ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulation as well as audit and SOX controls. You will work closely with our People & Culture team, Accounting, Tax, and Benefits teams.

How you will contribute to what we do:
- Oversee successful, accurate, and on-time delivery of company’s payrolls including regular biweekly, bonus, stock-based, off-cycle and special adjustments, ensuring payroll process and procedures are followed to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
- Identify recommendations to scale processes to enhance payroll operational efficiency including the design and implementation of internal controls and maintaining payroll policies and procedures. Maintain accurate and up-to-date standard operating procedures.
- Serve as payroll subject matter expert on projects that impact the payroll vendor, system, and processes. Provide internal support addressing all payroll related inquiries
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all human resources, personal, business, and compensation data.
- Assist Corporate Accounting with payroll account reconciliation and resolution of GL issues/errors to ensure postings are reflected correctly.
- Support benefits plan design and administration.
- Manage vendor/supplier relationships and monitor performance and deliverables.
- Assist with employee questions regarding enrollment, eligibility, claims and payroll deductions.
- Provide project management support for annual open enrollment.
- Create standard work and process maps to document key processes.
- Manage life event and leave programs.
About You:
- You hold a BS or BA degree or equivalent related work or military experience along with a minimum of eight years work experience managing payroll and benefits in multi-state environment.
- You have strong knowledge of payroll laws, codes, rules and regulations
- You have strong knowledge of various benefit-related legislation, e.g. ACA, COBRA, HIPPA, FMLA, etc.
- You have strong experience in payroll preparation, record-keeping, filing, monitoring and control.
- You have experience with HRIS, payroll and benefits platforms.
- You have the ability to gain confidence of leaders across the organization by responding to customer requests accurately and promptly.
- You can exhibit excellent communication and problem resolution skills, as well as strong mathematical skills with a high degree of accuracy.
- You are able to identify and understand changing legislation and apply to current policies/processes.
- You possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail to execute projects accurately and on time.
- You have a strong analytical mind and problem-solving skills.
- You can demonstrate excellent judgement, maintain confidentiality, and act with personal and professional integrity.
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- You have the ability to work independently while also being successful in a collaborative team environment.
- You are a self-motivated with sense of urgency.

Hiring Range Disclaimer
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Tanger's total compensation package for employees.
Hiring Range:$75,600 - $114,950 per year
