Pay Schedule: Range 17A ($150,637 - $178,289)
Work Schedule: 220 days/12 months
Location: Redlands Office and Remote Office
Position Summary: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, the Director of Human Resources: Talent and Engagement position encompasses a broad range of responsibilities aimed at enhancing organizational effectiveness and compliance. The director leads strategic human resources (HR) projects, manages employee relations and performance evaluations, ensures compliance with legal standards, resolves complaints and disputes, oversees recruitment processes, and oversees and maintains staff qualifications. The role requires collaboration across departments to foster a positive work environment and implement efficient HR practices, ensuring the organization meets its goals and maintains legal compliance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Overarching Duties and Abilities for All Sage Oak Directors:
Primary Focus
School-wide and Larger Community Focus
- Builds a shared vision among educational partners, with a focus on aligning departmental objectives with the school's mission and vision.
- Leads the department with a comprehensive approach, considering the interplay between departmental needs, the schools' overarching goals, and community engagement.
- Keeps abreast of educational laws and trends relevant to their portion of the department. As a legal expert for their specific area, offers advice and implements strategies in alignment with the guidance from the Assistant Superintendent, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
Budget
- Sets priorities for school needs in relation to the Local Control Accountability Plan
- Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, develops and maintains department budget.
Staff Performance & Professional Development
- Manages and conducts evaluations for department staff, providing support, direction, and coaching to evaluators.
- Oversees the corrective action processes for department staff, ensuring alignment with organizational standards and goals across all departments, maintaining the highest level of performance and compliance across the organization.
- Collaborates with supervisor to set individual professional goals/actions that are in alignment with schoolwide goals. Develops a plan to execute and achieve those goals.
- Utilizes department-specific performance data and stakeholder feedback to identify professional development needs. Works with the Assistant Superintendent to design and oversee the implementation of targeted development programs.
Develops Department and School
- Develops innovations that will support the schools’ growth and needs and promote sustainability and longevity across all departments; Determines school and department needs and proactively develops solutions using creative problem solving and a high level of customer service to the larger community, staff and students.
- Manages and updates policies, procedures, and department manuals to reflect school goals and legal requirements, maintaining consistency across the board.
Oversees hiring of quality department staff and works collaboratively with human resources to follow school policy and procedure.
Educational Partner Engagement
- Develops a strong presence, collaborative relationship, and engaged connectivity with authorizing districts, the Board of Directors, Sage Oak staff and families, and the larger community through both in-person and virtual means.
- Attends meetings and conferences as needed
General Human Resources Responsibilities
Leads assigned projects and support internal teams with strategic planning and staffing, employee relations, performance management, corrective action processes, leaves of absence, investigations and Title IX, accommodations, staff training, hiring and recruitment, credentialing, and professional development
Leads an interdepartmental team to complete assigned projects on time, to specifications, and with accuracy and efficiency from start to finish, garnering the buy-in necessary to ensure successful implementation through clear communication
Employee and Labor Relations
Plans, builds, and develops training of human resources staff to ensure employee questions are responded to promptly, professionally, and in line with the schools’ core values
Addresses and resolves complaints and conflicts as assigned; Ensures resolution is implemented fairly, consistently, and in a timely manner; ensures practices are compliant with state and Federal regulations
Works with the superintendent and assistant superintendent of human resources in the development of surveys to gather feedback from staff, supporting the organization’s overall collection of feedback from the larger community as needed; works with leadership to determine actionable items based on feedback
Performance Management
Ensuring Compliance
Supports supervisor in the development, execution, and maintenance of personnel policies, handbooks, and procedures
Hiring and Recruitment
Develops and maintains employment documentation, including but not limited to letters of intent (LOI), employment agreements (EA), addendums, and reasonable assurance letters (RAL)

Strategic Staffing and Position Control
Stays updated on industry trends and best practices related to hiring, recruitment, diversity, and inclusion, and provides recommendations to enhance organizational goals
Supports tracking and analyzing personnel data, including but not limited to retention and turnover rates, time-to-fill positions, and other relevant metrics, and supports school leadership in developing retention strategies
Certificated Staff Credentialing and Assignment Monitoring
Oversees teacher induction (eg. monitoring staff eligibility, enrollment, progress monitoring, completion, and status of clear credentials and prospective recommendations)

Resolves escalated employee, parent, and student issues in alignment with core values and ensuring compliance with the school’s Uniform Complaint Policy; the school’s Uniform Technology Policy; and the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act)
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Experience & Education:
Demonstrated certificated leadership with three or more years required, focusing on school administration, human resources, and/or educational site management, and a track record of escalating responsibility
A Master’s degree or equivalent work in the field of education as it pertains to the position, leadership, human resources, or administration desired
Other Qualifications:
Knowledge:
Knowledge of principals, practices, goals, strategies, objectives, and trends of public school administration
Knowledge of effective human resources management and organizational development practices, employer/employee relations, investigations, evaluation, supervision, and discipline, sound employment procedures and practices, legal procedures and terminology utilized in evaluation, supervision, and discipline
Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures including the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, California Family Rights Act, Education Code, child abuse reporting requirements, sexual harassment, and other state and federal laws
Computer Literacy: General knowledge of database software, how to use the internet to find information and complete tasks, email usage, order processing systems, spreadsheet software, and word processing software
