Duties:
The human resource generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the HR Director to meet the goals and objectives of Greenheart. This position supports the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, payroll, policy implementation, recruiting/talent acquisition, and employment law compliance.
Meeting Benchmarks:
- Maintain company organization charts and update new hire information in the payroll system
- Staff Leadership Development: Assist in the implementation of the Learning Management System/program and troubleshoot platform issues, as necessary
- Maintain human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database
- Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
Operational Excellence:
- Assist in the coordination of talent acquisition needs for all Greenheart departments including job postings, applicant screening, conducting phone interviews, scheduling in person interviews.
- Enter and maintain electronic HR files of all Greenheart employees.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
- Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.
- Assists in the preparation and maintenance of the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.
- Coordinate and conduct background check and references.
- Audits HR files and records periodically.
- Assist in workplace investigations as needed.
- Leave Administration
Empowering Workplace:
- Develop and disseminate HR and organizational communications as required
- Serve as a liaison between various Greenheart departments
- Assist in initiatives related to Greenheart’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
- Facilitate and coordinate the Greenheart Guide and Onboarding Programs
- Assist and participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
- Contribute to the Greenheart Newsletter, when applicable
- Stay abreast of Human Resources, industry changes, and international organizational development through research, projects, seminars, etc.
- Work on special projects and other duties, as assigned.
- Sits on the Engagement Committee and is an active part of staff engagement events.
Some qualifications that are given preference:
- Prefer a bachelor’s degree in human resources or similar area of study.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
- 3-5 years’ experience in human resources, preferably with a non-profit organization.
- ADP – Workforce Now or other HRIS experience
- Experience in analytical thinking and problem solving.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively develop and maintain collaborative internal and external relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
- Passion in helping people grow the purpose-driven Greenheart Mission
- A strong ability to effectively mediate, deescalate, and resolve workplace conflict.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills including mentorship and ongoing professional development.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, keeping a positive and professional demeanor.
- Ability to travel to our Chicago HQ as needed (periodically)
- Annual In-person meeting travel is required (destination varies)
