ABOUT HAVEN: HAVEN is a catalyst for individual empowerment and societal change: advocating for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking and working to end gender-based violence. HAVEN has been serving adults and children affected by domestic and sexual violence for over 40 years. At HAVEN, we use a trauma-informed, client-centered service model, which focuses on the client setting the direction, establishing their own goals and objectives, and being empowered to make their decisions.
This position IS NOT subject to mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse because 1) This position provides services to adults only and so is not subject to mandated reporting under CANRA OR 2) This position does not present in schools as part of a child abuse prevention program. Such a report, including sharing identifying information with a mandated reporter position at HAVEN, without following "release of confidential information" policies is a breach of confidentiality and can result in termination.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Service delivery
- Model effective Crisis Intervention and Safety Planning skills
- Provide backup support for coverage of 24 hour response calendar as needed
Staff supervision - Supervise Human Resources Coordinator
- Oversee volunteer orientation and placement
- Hold regularly scheduled individual meetings with the HR Coordinator
- Ensure prompt communication of changes or updates
- Ensure HR Coordinator understands their roles and responsibilities
- Determine initial/ongoing training and supervisory support needs for the HR Coordinator, and develop strategies to consistently meet those needs
- Encourage increased responsibility in meeting program and agency needs as staff gains experience
- Ensure implementation of personnel and agency supervision policies with HR Coordinator including evaluation, corrective action procedures, and time card/attendance policies.
HR Duties - General HR management including:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Oversee processes for hiring, annual evaluation, disciplinary process, and separation for all staff and volunteers
- Oversee maintenance of personnel files of staff and volunteers
- Maintain current job descriptions for all positions and ensure staff and personnel files have current versions when changed.
- Advises supervisors on labor and other legal issues relative to employment
- Research specific HR needs as they arise in coordination with external HR Consultants
- As regulations change, ensure the Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual and other personnel policies needing update are presented to the Executive Director for Board Approval and updated / communicated to staff in a timely manner
- Administer and executive routine tasks in delicate circumstances, such as assessing reasonable accommodation needs and allegations of wrongdoing in a manner ensuring confidentiality where able and transparency where not.
- Benefits management, including tracking paid leave, unemployment, worker’s comp, retirement, and medical benefits
- Assist supervisors in ensuring consistent application of personnel and agency policies from a framework of diversity, equity, and inclusion, including evaluation, corrective action procedures, and time card / attendance policies.
- Prepare / assist with annual audits and reports as required by employee laws and benefit administrators. Includes but not limited to annual EEOC report, retirement benefits reports, personnel section of annual Single Audit, Worker’s Compensation audit, Cal OSHA required audits.
General
- Oversee general office management, and office operations, and oversee office maintenance scheduling.
- Assist with fundraising activities as needed
- Conduct presentations in advocate training if required
- Record or document all statistical data as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Google Workspace
- Must have basic math skills
- Must have effective verbal and written communication skills
- Must have the ability to provide services to and work with diverse populations
- Must have the ability to work independently as well as cooperatively
- Ability to maintain confidentiality as it pertains to HR issues
- Minimum of two years HR experience for company in California with over 20 employees, and preferably with 50+ employees, preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $29.87 - $31.37 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
