Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, the Director of Compensation and Benefits is responsible for the design, oversight, and administration of all employee compensation and benefits programs and initiatives at Miller's Ale House. This will include the annual total compensation planning process, competitive pay analyses, and job infrastructure review, along with recommendations and the implementation of benefit and wellness programs. Working collaboratively with the business, HR, and Finance, the Director will be required to understand specific business needs while driving the delivery of well-considered compensation and benefits solutions and processes. This role requires strategic thinking, planning expertise, and analytical abilities. The Director will interact across all levels of the company and with external resources, including vendors, legal counsel, and consultants.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Benefits
• Works with insurance brokers and investment planners to create competitive, cost-effective benefits packages for the organization; facilitates implementation and enrollment for insurance and retirement plans.
• Monitor and evaluate the company’s benefits programs, including insurance programs, retirement plans, sick leave, time off, and vacation policies.
• Lead annual benefits renewal process, 401(k) audit, true-up, and excess return. Ensure plan documents are maintained, revise SPDs, and ensure all regulatory filings are executed.
• Coordinate with benefit providers on wellness and health education initiatives.
• Partner with benefit vendors, broker, Legal, Finance, and HR in negotiating benefit coverage.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy for benefits programs.
• Administers employee insurance programs including life, disability, and health insurance plans.
• Administers employee savings plans that may include the company’s 401(k) plan, personal savings plans, and deferred compensation programs.
• Completes records, reporting, and other documentation required by federal, state, and provider rules, regulations, and policies.
• Leads the benefits team to ensure administrators’ and insurance carriers’ reports to ensure the organization’s compliance with plan requirements.
• Maintains knowledge of economic conditions, labor market, and other factors related to ensuring the organization provides competitive and reasonable benefits and compensation scales and structures.
• Ensure all projects, programs, plan documentation, and communications meet applicable guidelines.
Compensation and Total Rewards
• Develop and implement a total rewards strategy for the company.
• Lead the design and administration of the company’s compensation programs, including base pay management, incentive, and other variable compensation plans under the direction of the Head of Human Resources and in collaboration with the CFO.
• Complete hands-on competitive benchmarking, FLSA designations, base and incentive compensation, long-term incentives, investment, and executive compensation programs.
• Prepare survey submissions for compensation and benefits, analyze results, identify trends/themes, and make recommendations to revise or enhance offerings.
• Prepare components of offer packages for new hires, promotions, and adjustments, and prepare talent-planning budgets.
• Maintains knowledge of economic conditions, labor market, and other factors related to ensuring the organization provides competitive and reasonable benefits and compensation scales and structures.
Compliance
• Ensures compliance with federal, state local municipalities, and government agencies related to benefit and compensation programs.
• Ensures the organizations and plans’ compliance with the applicable provisions of COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA.
• Prepares and maintains job descriptions for each position in the organization; ensures descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed by incumbents.
• Leads the strategy, implementation, and maintenance of a performance management solution.
• Ensure all compensation and benefits projects, programs, plan documentation, and communications meet applicable guidelines.
Leadership
• Leads and develops direct reports.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, finance, management, or other related discipline. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience with developing innovative compensation and benefits plans.
• Financial services industry experience strongly preferred. Previous experience in a private company with complex equity programs or self-insurance is a plus.
• High level of analytical/technical skills, financial modeling experience, and familiarity with market data surveys, compensation planning software, and HRIS integration.
• Previous expertise working with an HRMS, preferably Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG).
• Experience in educating employees and leadership on compensation and benefits.
• Strong understanding of all compliance and reporting requirements relating to compensation and benefits.
